Our First Wedding Anniversary - San Juan Islands

It's hard to believe that it has already been one year since Brad and I said "I Do" on the pink sands of Harbour Island. Friday June 27th was our first anniversary.  The year has flown by so quickly! It's been a really, really good year and to celebrate, we went up to the San Juan Islands for a few nights. Neither of has had ever been, and I can safely say we would both go back in a heartbeat. The whole area is simply beautiful. The weather could not have been more perfect. It was in the 70s and closer to 80 by the time we left. There was no wind, no clouds (after the first day), and very few crowds.

We spent the first 2 nights, including our anniversary, on Orcas Island. This island is much more laid back and quiet than San Juan and we both preferred it's pace. We went on a few hikes, actually hiking 5 miles on our anniversary! It felt great...my ankles were pretty swollen when we were finished, and my back was sore, but it was worth it. We went out to several great meals...the food there is really amazing. Most of the produce is grown locally and is organic. Much of the fish and meat is also local.

On our 3rd and final night, we went over to San Juan Island. The ferry rides are kind-of fun. It took about an hour from Anacortes to Orcas, and another hour from Orcas to San Juan. Friday Harbor is the main destination on San Juan, and that's where we stayed. We went to Roche Harbor for the day and this was our favorite part of San Juan. There are so many beautiful sailboats and yachts and it is quieter here. We liked Friday Harbor, but our hotel did not have air conditioning (as the average high temperature in the summer is 70) and there was a karaoke bar across the street. It was too loud to sleep with the windows open, so we did a little sweating that night. Overall, we had an amazing time and really enjoyed our last 'hoorah' before the baby is born. The islands are very family-oriented, so we hope to go back someday with our kid(s) and do some camping or rent a house. For now, we will settle in and wait for this baby to come! I look forward to many more anniversaries with Brad...I really did find my soulmate when I met him and I am looking forward to the next phase of our lives...parenthood!
